Meet the Founder

Melinda Hanson is the founder of Brightside, where she leads the firm’s work to advance climate-friendly policies and technologies. She’s also the co-founder of The E-Mobility Project (TEMP), a policy and deployment accelerator for electric micromobility. Melinda has shared insights on reducing car dependence in the BBC, Bloomberg, TIME, The New York Times, and The Verge, and has been named a Grist ‘Fixer’ and a Remarkable Woman in Transport, as well as an advisor to the NYC Mayor’s task force on electric micromobility.

Melinda has spent her career advancing projects to decarbonize cities, including as an entrepreneur-in-residence at climate investor Elemental Impact, Head of Sustainability at Bird, and Deputy Director at NACTO’s Global Designing Cities Initiative. She’s worked on Bus Rapid Transit and bikeshare projects in Manila and Peshawar with the Asian Development Bank, implemented tactical urbanism projects in Addis Ababa, and advised city governments on resilient urban design for Rebuild By Design. Earlier in her career, she was a founding staff member at the ClimateWorks Foundation, where she oversaw more than $20M in annual grants to international non-profit organizations.
